چکیده

 We consider a TDMA cellular multihop network where relaying – via wireless terminals that have a good communication link to the base station – is used as a coverage enhancement technique. Provided that the subscriber density is not very low, relaying via wireless terminals can have a significant impact on coverage, capacity, and throughput. This is mainly due to the fact that the signals only have to travel through shorter distances and/or improved line-of-sight paths. In this work, we investigated the effects of various relaying node selection (essentially a routing issue) and relaying channel selection schemes, as well as the effects of transmit power control, on system performance (these three selection/control schemes constitute the three major radio resource management decisions in peer-to-peer relaying in cellular networks). Our results show that with some modest intelligence incorporated in the relaying node selection scheme, the system coverage can be improved significantly through two-hop relaying. Furthermore, this improvement is observed to be fairly insensitive to the relaying channel selection scheme used, which is a plus in implementation. It is also observed that, as long as the number of wireless terminals in a cell is not very low, a minimal relaying node power level is sufficient to obtain most of the coverage enhancements.

Exploiting Cooperation for Performance Enhancement and High Data Rates

In this paper, we discuss an approach to increase wireless bandwidth utilization based on cooperative network architecture, referred to as Cellular Controlled Peer-to-Peer (CCP2P) communication. This approach goes beyond the concepts used in composite networks, focused mainly on coverage extension and data relaying. In CCP2P networks, besides being connected to an ”outside world” using cellular...

Mobile positioning based on relaying capability of mobile stations in hybrid wireless networks

A novel mobile position location procedure, based on the relaying capability of the mobile stations in a hybrid cellular/peer-to-peer ad hoc network to improve positioning coverage and accuracy, is proposed. The proposed mobile location scheme is a hierarchical-structured flooding procedure, making use of the relaying capability of mobile stations to achieve location diversity. Simulation resul...

Advanced Relaying Methods for One-Way and Two-Way Communication

In wireless communication, relays are devices that receive and forward radio signals. Relays are attractive as they can increase the coverage of cellular networks. Moreover, relays improve the robustness of the wireless radio communication as they create additional signal paths. In this thesis, we propose novel schemes for oneand two-way communication in wireless relay networks. We aim to selec...

A Dynamic Incentive Pricing Scheme for Relaying Services in Multi-hop Cellular Networks

Applying peer-to-peer communications in cellular networks to improve performance has been an active research area in recent years. Cooperation among nodes is an important prerequisite for the success of the multi-hop cellular networks. Cost savings and service availability are the primary concerns that the network provider adopts multi-hop cellular networking technology. In this paper, we prese...
